What is All Terrain Progress Control?
All Terrain Progress Control (ATPC) is an advanced JLR driver assistance system that functions as a low-speed cruise control, designed specifically for off-road and low-traction environments. Unlike standard cruise control that operates at highway speeds, ATPC allows the driver to set a target speed between 1 km/h (0.6 mph) and 32 km/h (20 mph) for off-road use, and up to 65 km/h (40 mph) for on-road use. The vehicle automatically manages throttle and braking to maintain the set speed, enabling the driver to focus entirely on steering and obstacle negotiation.
ATPC integrates directly with the vehicle’s Terrain Response 2 system, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), and Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) modules. The system uses wheel speed sensors, yaw rate sensors, and engine torque management to maintain precise speed control across gravel, sand, mud, rock, and snow surfaces. This retrofit kit adds full OEM ATPC functionality to compatible JLR vehicles that were not factory-equipped with this option.

ATPC Module Location
In factory-equipped vehicles, the ATPC control logic is integrated within the Central Junction Box (CJB) and the Terrain Response 2 control module. The physical ATPC steering wheel switch is mounted on the left-hand side of the steering wheel, replacing the standard cruise control switch. On vehicles without factory ATPC, the switch blank is present behind the steering wheel trim.
Our retrofit kit includes a pre-programmed CANbus bridge module that installs in the driver’s footwell, behind the OBD-II port cover. This module intercepts the HS-CAN bus and inserts the ATPC control messages. The module location is standardised for LR4, Range Rover L405, Range Rover Sport L494, Discovery 4, and Discovery 5 vehicles. Detailed location diagrams are provided in the installation guide.
Vehicle Compatibility
ATPC retrofit is supported on the following JLR platforms equipped with Terrain Response 2 and electronic park brake (EPB):
- Land Rover LR4 / Discovery 4 (2010–2016) – all engines
- Range Rover L405 (2013–2022) – all variants including LWB and SVAutobiography
- Range Rover Sport L494 (2013–2022) – HSE, HST, SVR (non-ATPC factory vehicles)
- Land Rover Discovery 5 (2017–2023) – all grades
- Range Rover Velar L560 (2017–2023) – R‑Dynamic trim only
- Land Rover Defender L663 (2019–2023) – requires steering wheel swap for ATPC switch

Why Retrofit ATPC?
Off‑Road Precision
ATPC maintains a consistent speed across loose gravel, sand dunes, and rocky trails. The system automatically applies the brakes on downhill sections and gently increases throttle on ascents, allowing the driver to concentrate on steering and line choice.
On‑Road Comfort
In on-road mode (32–65 km/h), ATPC reduces driver fatigue in low-speed traffic, car parks, and urban environments. The system handles throttle and braking in stop-start conditions, functioning similarly to traffic jam assist.
Integrated Safety
ATPC works in conjunction with the vehicle’s ESC and ABS systems. If wheel slip is detected, the system reduces torque and applies selective braking to maintain traction. Speed is automatically reduced if the detected terrain requires lower entry speeds.
No Dealer Visit Required
All calibration is performed via OBD using the included programmer. CCF changes are applied automatically. The system is fully reversible – revert to factory settings by flashing the original CCF file at any time.
Installation Overview
Typical installation time is 45–75 minutes for experienced DIY users. Basic mechanical and electrical knowledge is recommended. Required tools: T20 Torx driver, plastic trim removal tool, 10mm socket (for battery terminal), and a Windows laptop (or Mac with Parallels) for OBD flashing.
- Disconnect battery: Disconnect the negative terminal and wait 5 minutes for system capacitors to discharge.
- Replace steering wheel switch: Remove the left-side steering wheel trim (airbag unit not required). Unclip the existing cruise control switch and install the ATPC switch. Connect the ribbon cable to the clock spring.
- Install CANbus bridge module: Locate the OBD-II port under the driver’s side dashboard. Remove the lower panel (2x T20 screws). Plug the Y‑harness between the vehicle’s OBD port and our bridge module. Secure the module with the included zip tie to the wiring loom.
- Flash ATPC calibration: Connect the OBD programmer to the diagnostic port. Launch the LR-Retrofit software on your laptop. Enter your VIN – the software will read the current CCF, apply ATPC enable bits, and write the modified CCF. This process takes approximately 8 minutes.
- Test and reassemble: Reconnect the battery. Start the engine. Press the ATPC button on the steering wheel – the ATPC icon should appear on the instrument cluster and infotainment screen. Set speed using the SET/+/- buttons. Test off-road mode by selecting low-range (if equipped) or by activating Terrain Response 2 in Sand or Mud/Ruts mode.
