Engineering & Integration

Each soft-close latch contains a precision electric motor and a worm-gear drive mechanism. When the door reaches the first-stage catch, a Hall-effect sensor detects the position and energises the motor. The motor retracts the latch fork, pulling the door into the fully closed position with controlled force — approximately 8 mm of travel. This design eliminates the need for a hard slam and reduces wear on door seals, hinges, and the latch itself.

The control module communicates via the LIN bus, matching the protocol used by the production soft-close system in L405 and L460 models. The retrofit kit includes a programming dongle that updates the door control module (DCM) parameters — you simply connect it to the OBD-II port, perform a one-time configuration, and the system activates. No permanent coding changes remain on the vehicle; you can revert to standard latch behaviour at any time.

All components are genuine JLR production parts, not aftermarket reproductions. The latches carry the same LR part numbers as those fitted to factory soft-close vehicles. This guarantees identical performance, durability, and corrosion resistance.

For vehicles built before 2018, the kit includes a LIN-bus adapter module that bridges the older CAN-based door module to the soft-close actuator. This ensures full backward compatibility without modifying the vehicle wiring harness.

Installation overview

We supply a detailed installation guide with torque specifications, connector pinouts, and module programming steps. Most professional installers complete the job in three to four hours. The process involves:

1. Removing the door card and vapour barrier.
2. Unbolting the existing latch (three Torx bolts) and disconnecting the electrical connector.
3. Installing the new soft-close latch with the supplied bolts — torque to 8 N·m.
4. Routing the actuator harness along the existing door loom and connecting to the door module.
5. Repeating for each door, then performing the OBD-II configuration procedure.

The configuration procedure takes less than five minutes. You connect the programming tool, select the soft-close option, and confirm. The system then cycles each latch once to verify operation. No special diagnostic equipment is required beyond the included dongle.
