Cabin Air Purification Pro Retrofit – Professional-Grade Air Quality for Land Rover & Range Rover
The Cabin Air Purification Pro system elevates the interior environment of your vehicle to a new standard of cleanliness. This genuine JLR retrofit system combines electrostatic particulate filtration with active ionisation technology. Unlike a standard pollen filter, this system continuously monitors cabin air quality and automatically neutralises fine dust (PM2.5), mould spores, bacteria, and viruses. Full integration with the vehicle’s Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) module allows you to monitor exterior and interior air quality indices on the touchscreen in real time.
How Cabin Air Purification Pro Works
The system comprises three core components working in sequence. First, the Air Quality Sensor (AQS) mounted in the HVAC intake plenum detects external pollutants, including nitrogen dioxide (NO₂) and carbon monoxide (CO), triggering the automatic recirculation flap to close against contaminated outside air. Second, the upgrade to a PM2.5 High-Efficiency Particulate Filter captures microscopic particles down to 2.5 micrometres in diameter, far finer than a conventional dust or pollen filter. Third, the Panasonic Nanoe X Generator releases hydroxyl radicals encapsulated in nano-sized water particles. These radicals denature surface proteins on viruses, bacteria, and allergens, deodorise the cabin, and inhibit mould growth on the evaporator core.
The Nanoe X device operates at a frequency of 100 kHz, generating 4.8 trillion hydroxyl radicals per second. It is installed within the driver’s side air duct and communicates via a private LIN-bus with the Automatic Temperature Control (ATC) module. Activation of the “Purify” mode is managed through the central touchscreen. The system displays a dynamic Air Quality Index (AQI) from 1 to 500, colour-coded to match international health standards, giving occupants a precise, data-driven view of the cabin environment.
Key Technical Benefits
- PM2.5 Filtration Efficiency – The high-density filter media captures 95% of fine particulate matter, including brake dust, tyre particulates, and industrial emissions, which are major contributors to respiratory irritation.
- Nanoe X Active Purification – Unlike passive carbon filters, the hydroxyl radicals actively attack airborne and surface-bound contaminants. This is particularly effective against odours and micro-organisms on upholstery and the steering wheel.
- Intelligent Air Recirculation – The external AQS cuts off outside air before it enters the cabin when detecting high concentrations of exhaust gases, automatically switching to recirculation mode without driver intervention.
- Inhibits Evaporator Mould – An often-overlooked benefit; the hydroxyl radicals circulate even when the blower is off, suppressing the bacterial growth that causes the characteristic “wet sock” smell from air conditioning systems.
- Seamless Touchscreen Integration – Cabin Air Purification Pro appears within the Climate menu with a dedicated soft key. The AQI graphic shows both PM2.5 levels inside and the level of external pollution detected by the intake sensor.
Included Components
The genuine JLR retrofit kit includes everything installed at the factory level:
- PM2.5-certified high-efficiency cabin air filter element
- Panasonic Nanoe X generator module with integrated high-voltage power supply
- Vehicle-specific air duct adapter and mounting bracket
- Dedicated LIN-bus wiring harness with OEM connectors to the ATC module
- External Air Quality Sensor (if not already present) with intake plenum mounting boss
- All necessary fasteners, conduit, and cable ties
All items are supplied in sealed Land Rover packaging with factory part numbers. No modification to existing vehicle components is necessary beyond mounting the hardware in designated positions already present in the HVAC assembly.
Compatible Vehicles
This retrofit is available for vehicles equipped with the fourth-generation Automatic Temperature Control module and Touch Pro or Pivi Pro infotainment. Supported models include:
| Model | Platform | Model Year from |
|---|---|---|
| Range Rover | L460 | 2022 onward |
| Range Rover Sport | L461 | 2022 onward |
| Range Rover Velar | L560 | 2021 onward (with Touch Pro / Pivi Pro) |
| Range Rover Evoque | L551 | 2021 onward (with automatic climate control) |
| Discovery 5 | L462 | 2021 onward |
| New Defender | L663 | 2020 onward (with Pivi Pro) |
| Discovery Sport | L550 | 2021 onward (with automatic climate control) |
A final compatibility check against your VIN confirms the correct ATC module software level and the physical HVAC assembly variant. Vehicles with manual air conditioning cannot be retrofitted.
Installation Process
The installation is carried out strictly per JLR’s workshop procedure:
- Physical installation of the Air Quality Sensor into the pollen filter housing or cowl intake, connected to the ATC module LIN network.
- Replacement of the standard cabin filter with the PM2.5 high-density element, noting the directional airflow arrow.
- Installation of the Nanoe X generator into the driver’s footwell air duct, securing it with the factory bracket and routing the wiring behind the centre console to the LIN-bus junction.
- Software update of the ATC module to the latest calibration file that supports the purification routines, followed by CCF modification to enable the “Cabin Air Purification” and “Air Quality Display” features.
- Functional test including Nanoe X current consumption verification, AQS closed-loop response test using a solvent-impregnated test swab at the intake, and confirmation of the AQI display refresh rate on the touchscreen.
