Access to these routines is protected by a challenge-response security mechanism known as “Coded Access.” When a user attempts to perform a restricted function, SDD generates a unique “Seed” code. To proceed, the user must provide a corresponding “Key” code (password). Without this password, critical programming and configuration tasks are impossible.

Understanding the Seed-Key Mechanism

The JLR Coded Access system is a form of cryptographic security. When a restricted function is selected in SDD, the software generates a random, time-sensitive numeric string called the Seed. This Seed is essentially the “challenge”. A proprietary algorithm, known only to JLR, is required to process this Seed and calculate the correct response, known as the Key. Our service performs this calculation, providing you with the valid Key to unlock the function. This is far more advanced than a simple static password, as the Seed and corresponding Key are different for every single attempt.
