Park Assist GEN2 Retrofit – Automated Parallel & Perpendicular Parking
Factory-level retrofit of the Genuine Land Rover Park Assist GEN2 system for Land Rover, Range Rover & Jaguar — including PAM module, 12 ultrasonic sensors, wiring harness, full JLR Pathfinder/SDD programming, and CCF activation. Achieve fully automated parking with the same hardware and software used on factory-fitted vehicles.
Service Overview
LR-Retrofit offers a complete Park Assist GEN2 retrofit service for compatible JLR vehicles. The GEN2 system (also referred to as Park Assist 2.0) is the second-generation automated parking system developed by Jaguar Land Rover. It enables the vehicle to perform fully automated parallel parking, perpendicular (bay) parking, and park exit — the driver only controls the gear selector and accelerator/brake while the system steers the vehicle into the space using a combination of 12 ultrasonic sensors and the electric power steering (EPS) system.
The retrofit includes all genuine Land Rover parts: the Park Assist Module (PAM), 12 ultrasonic sensors (6 front and 6 rear — the rear bumper requires specific GEN2 sensor holders that integrate with the tailgate and bumper trim), the complete underbody wiring harness that runs from the PAM to each sensor and to the CAN bus network, and all mounting brackets and fixings. We source all components using genuine LR part numbers and supply a detailed parts manifest upon booking.
Following the physical installation, the system is activated via JLR Pathfinder and SDD (Service Diagnostic System). We perform CCF (Car Configuration File) modification to enable the Park Assist menu in the infotainment system, code the PAM module with the correct vehicle variant and calibration data, and carry out a full sensor alignment and functional test using JLR diagnostic routines.
System Components & Installation Details
The Park Assist GEN2 system comprises the following hardware elements, all of which are included in our retrofit package:
- Park Assist Module (PAM) – The central control unit that processes ultrasonic sensor data, communicates with the EPS module via the CAN drivetrain bus, and sends steering angle commands to the EPS. The PAM runs GEN2 firmware and must be correctly flashed with the vehicle’s VIN and calibration set.
- 12 Ultrasonic Sensors – Six front sensors mounted in the front bumper (positions: outer left, middle left, centre left, centre right, middle right, outer right) and six rear sensors mounted in the rear bumper (positions similarly distributed). The GEN2 sensors have a wider detection angle (120°) compared to standard parking sensors (80°), necessary for space measurement during automated parking.
- Underbody Wiring Harness – A dedicated harness runs from the PAM (located in the passenger footwell area on most JLR vehicles) to each sensor, and taps into the CAN IHS bus (body chassis) and CAN drivetrain bus for communication with the EPS module, instrument cluster, and infotainment head unit.
- EPS Interface – The Electric Power Steering module must have the appropriate software level to accept steering commands from the PAM. In rare cases, an EPS software update is required. We check this during the pre-installation VIN scan.
Installation typically requires 4–6 hours for a skilled technician. The front and rear bumpers must be removed to fit the sensors and route the harness. We also install the switch panel (if not present) that allows manual activation of the parking search and selection of parallel/perpendicular mode. In vehicles with a power tailgate, additional attention is needed for the rear sensor wiring to pass through the tailgate hinge conduit.
GEN2 Features – How the System Operates
Once activated, the Park Assist GEN2 system provides the following functions through the infotainment screen and instrument cluster interface:
- Parallel Parking Assist – The system detects suitable parking spaces up to 1.5x the vehicle length (minimum space requirement is 1.2 m longer than the vehicle). The driver selects parallel mode, drives past the space, and then engages reverse gear. The PAM takes over steering, the driver controls speed. The system can perform up to 4 steering manoeuvres.
- Perpendicular (Bay) Parking Assist – Detects available spaces in car parks and drives the vehicle into a bay either front-first or reverse (driver selection). The system uses the rear sensors to calculate the space dimensions and execute the steering input.
- Park Exit Assist – When parked parallel, the system can steer the vehicle out of the space automatically while the driver operates the gear selector and accelerator.
- 360° Surround View Integration – If the vehicle already has the surround camera system (5 cameras), the Park Assist screen overlays the camera view with parking trajectory lines and brightens the side feeds to assist the driver during monitoring. This integration requires the correct infotainment software version.
All system settings are adjustable via the infotainment menu: Park Assist – Auto Park ON/OFF, Parking mode selection, and audible feedback settings. The PAM continuously monitors sensor health and will display a fault message if a sensor is blocked or fails.

Why LR-Retrofit for Park Assist GEN2?
- Genuine parts only – We supply the complete kit using genuine Land Rover part numbers. No aftermarket wiring or sensors that could cause CAN bus errors.
- Full JLR Pathfinder & SDD programming – All modules are flashed with the correct calibration files, CCF is modified to enable the Park Assist menu, and the system is calibrated using JLR diagnostic routines.
- Comprehensive testing – After installation, we perform a full system test: simulating parallel and perpendicular parking spaces, checking sensor detection range, and verifying communication with the EPS via live data.
- Warranty preserved – The retrofit uses factory procedures and leaves no trace of modification. The system behaves identically to a factory-equipped vehicle and all diagnostics remain standard.
- Mobile installation service – We can install at your location across London, the Midlands, and Southern England. Save the time and cost of a dealership visit.
