Video in Motion for InControl Touch Plus (GEN 2.1) – JLR Coding Service
Remove the factory speed lock and play video on the move in your Jaguar Land Rover InControl Touch Plus (GEN 2.1) system.
What Video in Motion Delivers on Touch Plus (GEN 2.1)
Jaguar Land Rover fits the InControl Touch Plus (GEN 2.1) infotainment platform to a wide spread of vehicles across its range. The system plays video from USB drives, SD cards, and supported streaming sources, and it drives a sharp front touchscreen that passengers enjoy on long journeys. From the factory, however, JLR locks video output once the vehicle passes a low speed threshold. The screen blanks, a warning message appears, and playback stops.
Our Video in Motion service removes that lock. You then keep video running for passengers during motorway trips, and you keep the screen live for off-road aids such as camera feeds while you crawl across rough ground. The change is reversible at any time because we always retain your original configuration.
How the Factory Speed Lock Works
The Touch Plus (GEN 2.1) head unit reads a vehicle speed signal that travels over the medium-speed CAN bus. That signal originates at the Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) module, passes through the Body Control Module (BCM), and reaches the head unit through the Gateway Module (GWM). The navigation and entertainment application compares the incoming speed value against a stored threshold. Once speed exceeds that threshold, the head unit suppresses the video layer and shows a safety warning instead.
The Car Configuration File (CCF) holds the parameters that govern this behaviour. One specific parameter tells the system whether the vehicle permits video in motion. JLR sets that parameter to “disabled” for every market at the factory. Our technicians change the value to “enabled” using approved JLR diagnostic software, and the head unit then treats video playback as a permitted function at all speeds.
Our Coding Procedure
We connect an approved JLR diagnostic interface to the vehicle’s OBD port. For Touch Plus (GEN 2.1) equipped vehicles, we use JLR System Driven Diagnostics (SDD) in engineering mode, or JLR Pathfinder with the DoIP Vehicle Communication Interface on later model years. The platform reads your VIN and pulls the live CCF straight from the vehicle.
We back up the original CCF before we touch anything. That backup lets us restore factory behaviour whenever you ask. We then locate the video in motion parameter, set it to enabled, and write the updated CCF back to the vehicle. After the write completes, we clear any diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) that appeared during the session and confirm that no other parameters shifted.
A stable power supply is critical. We connect a battery support unit that delivers 20 to 30 amps at 13.5 to 14.2 volts for the whole session. This precaution prevents the voltage drop that can interrupt a CCF write and corrupt module memory. We check battery health before we begin.
Finally, we verify the result. We play video content while the vehicle moves at a safe speed on private land or during a road test with a passenger watching the screen. You see the change working before we finish.
Compatible Vehicles
This service suits Jaguar Land Rover vehicles fitted with the InControl Touch Plus (GEN 2.1) infotainment system. Typical models include:
- Range Rover Evoque (L538) with Touch Plus
- Discovery Sport (L550) with Touch Plus
- Range Rover Sport (L494) with Touch Plus
- Range Rover (L405) with Touch Plus
- Jaguar XE, XF, F-Pace, and E-Pace with Touch Plus
Software versions vary across model years, so we verify compatibility against your VIN before you order. Send your registration or VIN through our contact form, and we reply with a definitive answer.
Legal and Safety Information
You must check your local road traffic laws before you request this service. Many countries prohibit the driver from viewing video while the vehicle moves. We intend this service for passenger entertainment and for off-road use on private land. You remain responsible for complying with every applicable regulation, and we recommend that the driver never watches video while driving. We supply full documentation of the coding change so you keep a complete service record.
What the Service Includes
- Full CCF backup before any modification
- Video in motion parameter identification and editing
- CCF write using approved JLR diagnostic tools
- DTC clearing and module self-tests
- Post-coding verification of video playback
- Written summary of the change performed
Remote and Workshop Options
We run remote sessions for owners who have a compatible JLR diagnostic interface, a Windows laptop, and a stable internet connection. Our technician connects to your laptop and guides the process from start to finish while you supply the battery support unit. We also welcome vehicles to our UK workshop for a hands-on appointment. Remote sessions cost less, and workshop visits suit vehicles that need further coding or diagnostics alongside this change.
