Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop & Go & Traffic Jam Assist Retrofit

What the Retrofit Pack Includes
- A genuine Land Rover long‑range radar sensor (typically a Continental ARS‑4 or equivalent) pre‑matched to your VIN. This sensor detects vehicles up to 160 metres ahead, measuring speed and distance in real time.
- Vehicle‑specific mounting bracket and fasteners that position the radar at the exact factory alignment behind the grille or lower intake.
- Pre‑made wiring harness that connects the radar to the vehicle’s FlexRay network and power supply, using factory connectors and routing paths.
- Complete software enablement: CCF update to activate Adaptive Cruise Control and Traffic Jam Assist, plus configuration of the ABS, IPC (instrument cluster), IPMA (image processing module) and, where applicable, the PSCM (power steering control module).
- Precision radar calibration using the official JLR‑specified target board and dynamic calibration drive—the same process that a factory line‑end test performs.
How the System Works After Installation
Once you activate ACC, the forward radar constantly measures the distance and relative speed of the vehicle ahead. The IPMA camera reads lane markings and stationary objects. Together they provide a complete picture of the traffic environment. The ABS module controls brake pressure through the stability control pump, while the engine control unit adjusts throttle. This closed‑loop control keeps you at a time‑based distance that you select. Stop & Go means the system decelerates your vehicle smoothly to zero mph and holds the brakes. When the lead vehicle pulls away, you either tap the accelerator or press the RES button, and your Land Rover automatically resumes the set cruise speed. Traffic Jam Assist activates automatically at speeds below 37 mph on roads with clear lane markings. It uses both radar and camera data to steer within the lane while maintaining the adaptive cruise gap—so the car effectively follows the flow of traffic with minimal steering input from you. All warnings, set speeds, and system statuses appear on your digital instrument cluster and head‑up display (if fitted).
Compatible Land Rover Vehicles
This retrofit suits vehicles already equipped with the necessary core hardware (IPMA camera, suitable ABS module, and the required central gateway). We confirm exact compatibility through your VIN. Typical compatible models include:
| Model | Compatible Years |
|---|---|
| Range Rover (L405) | 2018 – 2022 |
| Range Rover Sport (L494) | 2019 – 2022 |
| Range Rover Velar (L560) | 2018 – 2024 |
| Discovery 5 (L462) | 2019 – 2024 |
| Range Rover Evoque (L551) | 2020 – 2024 |
| Defender (L663) | 2020 – 2026 |
Some earlier models may also qualify after a focused hardware check. If your vehicle already has standard cruise control and an IPMA camera, a retrofit is highly likely. We assess your VIN at no cost before you commit.
Our Installation Process
- We remove the front bumper (if required) and mount the radar sensor on the factory bracket, ensuring perfect alignment with the vehicle centreline and the specified vertical plane.
- We route the original wiring loom from the radar to the vehicle’s main electrical centre, connecting it to the FlexRay bus exactly as the factory diagram specifies.
- We update the vehicle software using JLR Pathfinder. A CCF change activates the Adaptive Cruise Control feature flag. The ABS, IPC, IPMA, and PSCM configurations load the new functional parameters, including the Stop & Go threshold and Traffic Jam Assist steering curves.
- We calibrate the radar with a genuine Land Rover alignment target placed at an exact distance and angle. The diagnostic tool runs the static alignment, followed by a dynamic drive where the IPMA confirms radar-to-camera synchronisation.
- We test the complete system with you on a suitable road. You check the gap adjustment, the stop-and‑resume behaviour, and the Traffic Jam Assist steering in low‑speed congestion. The system passes a full functional verification.
Why Choose LR‑Retrofit for This Upgrade
- Total OEM integration – You receive the authentic Land Rover radar module and no aftermarket boxes. The system looks and feels exactly like the factory build.
- Preserves your vehicle warranty – All parts are genuine, and our software updates follow JLR’s engineering standards. Your dealer can still service and diagnose the car without obstruction.
- Mobile installation convenience – We complete the full retrofit at your home or workplace, typically within 3‑4 hours.
- Safety‑critical calibration – We use the JLR‑specified radar alignment board and follow the precise calibration routine. This step guarantees reliable object detection and appropriate distance control in all weather and traffic conditions.
Important Notes
The standard cruise control functions remain accessible; you can switch between adaptive and conventional cruise at any time via the steering‑wheel buttons. Traffic Jam Assist requires clearly visible lane markings on both sides and operates only under 37 mph. It provides steering assistance, but you must keep your hands on the wheel—the system monitors driver attentiveness through the torque sensor. The retrofit does not alter your vehicle’s exterior appearance significantly; the radar hides behind the grille. All original front‑facing camera and sensor functions (including emergency braking and lane keep assist) continue to work without conflict.
