Auto High Beam Assist (AHBA) Activation for Jaguar and Land Rover
What Auto High Beam Assist Delivers
You gain a smarter, safer night driving experience. AHBA continuously monitors the road ahead and automatically engages your high beams when conditions allow. As soon as the system detects an oncoming vehicle or a vehicle ahead, it dips the beams to low. Once the road clears, high beams return. This cycle repeats seamlessly, so you enjoy maximum visibility without distracting other drivers.
This feature reduces driver fatigue on long night journeys and helps you spot potential hazards earlier. You keep your hands on the wheel and your attention on the road, while the system manages the lights.
Technical Overview of JLR Auto High Beam Assist
JLR vehicles use a forward-facing camera, typically mounted at the top of the windscreen behind the rearview mirror, to support several driver assistance features. This camera captures images of the road and identifies light sources from vehicles. The Image Processing Module (IPM) or the Central Camera Module analyses these images in real time.
When the system detects that no oncoming or leading vehicles are present, and ambient light levels are low, it sends a signal to the Body Control Module (BCM) or the Headlamp Control Module to activate the high beams. When the camera identifies another vehicle’s lights, the module immediately switches to low beams. The entire process happens in milliseconds.
Activation requires precise configuration of the vehicle’s Car Configuration File (CCF). The CCF tells each electronic module which features the vehicle supports. By modifying specific parameters for the camera module and the headlamp control module, we authorise the AHBA function. We use JLR Pathfinder or the JLR Engineering Tool (JET) to ensure full compliance with manufacturer diagnostic standards.
How the System Works in Practice
You activate AHBA through the vehicle’s touchscreen or steering column stalk, depending on your model. Once active, the system monitors the road continuously. A tell-tale icon in the instrument cluster confirms when high beams are active and when the system holds them back. You retain the ability to override the system at any time by manually flashing or dipping the lights.
The camera works in all lighting conditions, but AHBA operates only when the headlights are on and vehicle speed exceeds a minimum threshold, typically around 40 km/h (25 mph). Below that speed, the system deactivates to avoid unnecessary switching in urban environments. The feature also pauses when the camera detects fog, heavy rain, or other conditions that reduce visibility.
Compatibility and Requirements
Auto High Beam Assist activation supports a wide range of JLR vehicles from 2013 onward. Your vehicle must have the correct forward-facing camera hardware. Many models already include this camera for features such as Lane Departure Warning, Traffic Sign Recognition, or Autonomous Emergency Braking. If your vehicle has one of these features, it almost certainly has the camera required for AHBA.
If your vehicle lacks the camera, we can supply the necessary hardware as part of a complete retrofit package. We confirm compatibility using your VIN before we begin. Most modern Defender, Range Rover, Range Rover Sport, Velar, Evoque, and Jaguar models support this activation.
Installation and Remote Activation
We perform the activation remotely. You connect our JLR-certified technician to your vehicle’s OBD port using a secure interface. The technician then writes the correct configuration to the CCF, enables the AHBA parameters, and tests the system functionality. The entire session typically takes less than an hour.
We provide clear instructions for operating the feature after activation. Our support team remains available to answer any questions. You receive a factory-level feature that integrates perfectly with your vehicle’s existing systems and retains full warranty coverage.
Why Choose LR-Retrofit for Your AHBA Activation
We specialise in genuine JLR software activations. Our technicians use official JLR tools and follow manufacturer procedures. We never use aftermarket hacks or unauthorised modifications. Your vehicle retains its original functionality and safety systems.
Auto High Beam Assist adds real value to every night drive. It improves visibility, reduces fatigue, and helps you avoid dazzling other drivers. With our remote service, you enjoy a seamless upgrade without visiting a workshop.
