Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) — OEM Retrofit & Activation for Jaguar and Land Rover Vehicles
Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) delivers your Jaguar or Land Rover vehicle’s most advanced forward-collision mitigation capability. This OEM ADAS function combines forward-facing camera data with long-range radar input to detect vehicles and pedestrians ahead, then applies staged braking intervention when the system identifies an imminent collision risk. We deliver this retrofit as a software-only activation or a complete hardware-plus-coding installation, depending on your vehicle’s existing ADAS sensor architecture and CCF trim-level restrictions.
How Autonomous Emergency Braking Works on JLR Platforms
JLR engineers built AEB as an integrated function within the vehicle’s forward-monitoring ADAS network. The Integrated Forward Camera (IFC) mounts at the top of the windscreen and identifies vehicles, pedestrians, and lane geometry. The forward long-range radar sensor mounts behind the front bumper and measures precise distance, relative speed, and closing rate across multiple targets simultaneously. The ADAS-ECU fuses both data streams to build a continuous threat assessment of the road ahead.
When the ADAS-ECU calculates that a collision will occur without intervention, it executes a three-stage response sequence. First, it pre-fills the brake system and delivers a forward-collision audible and visual warning through the instrument cluster. Second, it applies partial braking to reduce vehicle speed and close the closing-rate gap. Third, it commands full braking pressure through the ABS and Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) module to mitigate or avoid impact. The system operates at speeds between approximately 5 km/h and 80 km/h for vehicle detection, with pedestrian detection active between approximately 5 km/h and 60 km/h. Every braking-threshold value, target-classification parameter, and speed-activation limit retains original OEM factory-calibration settings.
System Components and Technical Specifications
The complete Autonomous Emergency Braking retrofit includes the following OEM-grade components:
- Integrated Forward Camera (IFC): A genuine JLR windscreen-mounted mono camera that provides vehicle classification, pedestrian detection, and lane-geometry data to the ADAS-ECU.
- Forward Long-Range Radar Sensor: A genuine JLR 77 GHz radar unit with up to 200 metres of detection range. The sensor mounts behind the front grille in the factory-designated position.
- ADAS-ECU Integration: This module fuses camera and radar data, evaluates collision probability, and issues braking requests across the vehicle CAN and FlexRay networks.
- ABS and DSC Brake Actuation: The ABS and Dynamic Stability Control modules execute the pre-fill, partial-braking, and full-braking pressure commands that AEB demands.
- Instrument Cluster and Warning Interfaces: The IPC delivers forward-collision warnings, while the audio system provides audible driver alerts.
Vehicle Compatibility
Our Autonomous Emergency Braking retrofit supports all DOiP-capable JLR platforms carrying compatible forward camera and radar hardware or factory provisions for sensor installation. Compatible models include:
- Defender (L663, 2020–2026)
- Range Rover (L405, L460, 2013–2026)
- Range Rover Sport (L494, L461, 2014–2026)
- Discovery 5 (L462, 2017–2026)
- Discovery Sport (L550, 2015–2026)
- Evoque (L538, L551, 2012–2026)
- Velar (L560, 2017–2026)
- Jaguar F-PACE (X761, 2016–2026)
- Jaguar XF (X260, 2016–2024)

Many mid-to-high-specification vehicles arrive from the factory with the forward camera and radar hardware already fitted, yet factory CCF trim-level restrictions disable the complete AEB feature set. Our dealer-level Pathfinder DOIP programming removes these software barriers and activates the full forward-collision mitigation logic.
The Retrofit Process
We perform every Autonomous Emergency Braking retrofit using certified JLR Pathfinder DOIP programming. The process follows four defined stages:
- Pre-Scan Diagnostics: We verify the health and compatibility of your vehicle’s forward camera, radar sensor, ABS module, and DSC module. This step confirms whether your vehicle requires software-only activation or a complete hardware-plus-coding installation.
- CCF Configuration Updates: We modify validated CCF build-file flags within the ADAS-ECU, ABS module, IPC, and gateway (GWM) to unlock dormant AEB logic. This approach preserves all factory braking thresholds, target-classification values, and diagnostic-logging routines.
- ADAS Sensor Calibration: Where sensor installation is required, our technicians mount the camera and radar units in factory-specified positions and perform static and dynamic calibration using JLR-approved diagnostic equipment. This calibration delivers the sub-millimetre alignment accuracy that AEB requires.
- Post-Activation Validation: Our JLR-certified technicians verify radar and camera response, warning behaviour, and brake pre-fill operation on-road. We confirm zero fault codes and full feature usability before completing the service.
Key Benefits of the Autonomous Emergency Braking Retrofit
- Forward-Collision Mitigation: AEB detects vehicles and pedestrians ahead and applies staged braking intervention to reduce impact severity or avoid a collision entirely.
- Dormant Hardware Unlock: Many JLR vehicles carry factory-fitted forward camera and radar electronics locked behind CCF software restrictions. Our activation unlocks this latent safety hardware without physical modifications.
- Full OEM Integration: The retrofit uses genuine JLR components and factory programming protocols. It maintains complete vehicle system integrity and triggers no warning lights or ADAS DTC faults.
- Complete ADAS Foundation: AEB activation establishes the sensor and coding foundation that supports Adaptive Cruise Control, Traffic Jam Assist, and Lane Keep Assist retrofits.
- Permanent Feature Stability: Autonomous Emergency Braking functionality persists through battery resets, system scans, and official JLR software updates.
