Maximum Speed Limit Correction & Speed Limiter Installation
DVSA-Authorised Agent – CANbus Calibration for JLR Vehicles & Commercial Fleet Services
Service Overview
LR-Retrofit provides three integrated speed management services: Maximum Vehicle Speed Limit Correction for Land Rover and Range Rover models, Speed Limiter Installation for Lorries (light and heavy goods vehicles), and Authorised Agent Services for commercial operators requiring DVSA-compliant calibration and certification. All services are performed using OEM-level diagnostic equipment and CANbus programming tools. We operate from a dedicated facility with Class 4 MoT bay and UKAS-traceable calibration equipment.
Our speed limiter solutions are designed to meet the requirements of the Road Traffic Act 1988 (Section 70), the Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations 1986, and DVSA enforcement guidelines. For JLR passenger vehicles, speed limit correction is achieved through CCF (Car Configuration File) modification and ECU flash programming. For commercial vehicles, we install and calibrate third-party speed limiter modules (Ethernet CAN or CANbus) with tachograph integration where required.
1. Maximum Vehicle Speed Limit Correction (JLR)
This service is intended for Land Rover and Range Rover owners who require a factory-grade adjustment of the electronic top speed limiter. Whether you need to increase the limiter for legal autobahn use, decrease it for fleet policy compliance, or restore a speed limiter after a remap, we can adjust the built-in speed limit parameter stored in the engine ECU (ECM) and the CJB (Central Junction Box).
The correction is applied via OBD-II using our proprietary calibration tool that accesses the CCF and ECM parameter tables. The maximum speed can be set to any value between 80 km/h (50 mph) and the vehicle’s original design limit (typically 250 km/h / 155 mph for standard models). The change is fully reversible and does not affect warranty on later models when performed through the approved diagnostic interface.

VIN Check: Some model years have locked CCF regions where speed values are stored in a checksummed block. We pre‑validate your VIN to confirm write access. No vehicle is accepted without prior verification.
2. Speed Limiter Installation for Lorries / HGVs
We supply and install certified speed limiter systems on light commercial vehicles (LCVs), heavy goods vehicles (HGVs), and other applicable vehicles requiring compliance with the UK and EU speed limiter regulations. Our preferred systems are the Traktec A2B RBTech and Holts SpeedGuard series, which integrate via CANbus or analogue throttle interface. All installations are MoT‑compatible and meet DVSA Type Approval requirements for limiters fitted after 1 October 2005.
The installation includes: physical mounting of the limiter control module, connection to the engine CANbus or throttle position sensor, calibration of the speed threshold (set to the legal default: 56 mph for HGV > 3.5 tonnes, 62 mph for buses/coaches, or customer‑specified limit), and a full functional test using a rolling road or GPS‑based speed verification system. A compliance certificate is issued with our authorised agent number.
Lorry Speed Limiter – Installation Specifications

| Speed Limiter Hardware | Traktec A2B RBTech (CANbus) or Holts SpeedGuard (analogue throttle control) |
| Default Speed Settings | 56 mph (90 km/h) – HGVs; 62 mph (100 km/h) – buses/coaches; custom limits available |
| Override Features | Optional “under‑speed” override: driver can exceed limiter by up to 5 mph for 30 seconds (emergency use). Software‑configurable. |
| Calibration Method | OBD programming or physical potentiometer adjustment + rolling road verification |
| Compliance Certificate | Issued with DVSA agent stamp, valid for annual MoT inspection |
| Installation Time | 2–3 hours for typical HGV; 1–2 hours for LCV |
3. Speed Limiter Authorised Agent Services
LR-Retrofit is an accredited speed limiter agent authorised by the DVSA (Vehicle and Operator Services Agency) to carry out the installation, calibration, repair, and annual inspection of speed limiters on commercial vehicles. Our agent status (certificate ID available on request) means that any limiter system we install is recognised by enforcement authorities and MoT test centres without additional verification.
Our authorised agent services include:
- Initial installation and calibration of any approved speed limiter system (new vehicles or retrofits).
- Annual calibration check and re‑sealing of limiter units (mandatory for HGVs and buses under UK law).
- Repair or replacement of defective limiters, including CANbus module swaps and throttle sensor repairs.
- Tachograph integration – ensuring speed limiter signals are correctly transmitted to the digital tachograph (if fitted).
- Compliance audits for fleet operators – we inspect all vehicles in your fleet and provide a report for your operator’s licence file.
- Mobile service – for fleets, we can attend your depot and perform installations on‑site (minimum 5 vehicles).
All work is recorded in our digital log, which is accessible by DVSA examiners upon request. We keep calibration records for a minimum of 6 years as required by law.
Why Use LR-Retrofit for Speed Limiter Services?
- JLR Specialist + Commercial Vehicle Expert: We combine factory‑level knowledge of Land Rover/Range Rover CANbus systems with DVSA‑compliant commercial vehicle speed limiter installation. One provider for both worlds.
- Full Calibration Traceability: Every speed limiter installation is logged with our unique agent ID. Calibration values are recorded before and after for fleet compliance.
- OEM Tools Used: For JLR speed limit correction, we use original JLR diagnostic software (SDD, Pathfinder) plus our own validated CCF tool. No generic remap files.
- No MoT Failures: Our installations and corrections are designed to pass MoT inspection. We provide the necessary certificates and hardware seals for commercial limiters.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will the speed limit correction void my JLR warranty?
If the correction is performed using our CCF‑based method (not a generic ECU tune), the change is recorded in the vehicle’s diagnostic log as a configuration change. Land Rover dealers may detect the alteration during a full module check. However, we provide a reversion service at no extra cost within 30 days. We recommend informing your dealer if you are within the warranty period.
Is the lorry speed limiter installation MoT‑compliant?
Yes. We install only Type‑Approved speed limiter systems (E‑marked) and provide a certificate of calibration. The installer seal will be affixed to the module, and MoT testers are trained to check for the seal and certificate. Vehicles without a valid speed limiter will fail the MoT.
What documentation do I receive?
For JLR speed limit correction: a printed calibration report with your vehicle registration, original speed limit, new speed limit, and our agent stamp. For commercial installations: a full compliance certificate, installation report, and DVSA agent seal. Digital copies are emailed as PDF.
Can you set the speed limiter to a specific value?
Yes. JLR speed limit correction can be set to any valid value in 5 km/h increments between the minimum and maximum. Commercial vehicle limiters are set to either the legal default (56 or 62 mph) or any value you specify, provided it does not exceed the legal maximum for the vehicle class.
Do you offer mobile installation for a single lorry?
Yes. We cover single installations with a £50 mobile surcharge. The surcharge is waived if you can bring the vehicle to our base in Milton Keynes. We also offer an exchange service: send your vehicle’s limiter module to us, and we will pre‑program and return it (for DIY installation).
