JLR Premium LED Headlight Retrofit — Factory Matrix, Adaptive Beam & Signature DRLs
Factory LED, Matrix, and Pixel Technology — Not Aftermarket Bulbs
We reject universal LED bulb replacements that scatter light uncontrollably and trigger canbus errors. JLR designs the entire headlamp assembly — reflector, projector, heatsink, and LED emitter — as a single sealed optical system. The beam pattern undergoes extensive homologation testing at Gaydon’s photometric laboratory. You receive the precise cut‑off line, the correct luminous intensity, and the full high‑beam assist functionality that Jaguar Land Rover engineering specifies.
Our Premium LED headlights use multi‑chip LED modules that produce a colour temperature of 5500 Kelvin — closely matching natural daylight. The low‑beam output delivers approximately 1,100 lumens per unit, while the high‑beam reaches 1,650 lumens. This represents a 230% improvement over a standard halogen H7 bulb, which typically produces only 500 lumens on dipped beam. The light distribution remains perfectly flat across the beam width, eliminating the hot‑spots and dark patches that characterise older reflector‑based systems.
For vehicles that support the Matrix or Pixel LED architecture, we install the adaptive driving beam system. A forward‑facing camera mounted behind the windscreen detects oncoming vehicles and vehicles travelling in the same direction. The headlight control module then selectively deactivates individual LED segments within the beam — up to 24 segments per headlamp on Pixel LED systems — creating a precise shadow around the detected vehicle while maintaining full high‑beam illumination everywhere else. You drive with maximum visibility without dazzling other road users.
Signature DRL Graphics & Sequential Dynamic Indicators
The daytime running light is the visual signature of your Land Rover or Jaguar. Premium LED headlamps incorporate the distinctive DRL graphic that JLR designers create for each model line: the double‑J blade on Range Rover, the interlocking circles on Discovery, or the J‑blade motif on Jaguar saloons. These DRLs operate at full intensity during daylight hours and dim automatically to side‑marker brightness when the dipped beam activates at night.
Dynamic sequential indicators replace the conventional flashing turn signal. When you indicate, a strip of amber LEDs illuminates sequentially from the inboard edge to the outboard edge, creating a smooth, progressive sweep. This feature enhances conspicuity significantly — following drivers perceive the directional sweep faster than a simple on‑off flash. The indicator module integrates into the headlamp assembly and communicates directly with the Body Control Module through the LIN bus.
Complete Installation — Headlamp Units, Control Modules & Dedicated Wiring
The upgrade requires more than simply swapping the headlamp assemblies. JLR Premium LED systems use dedicated control modules that manage the LED drivers, cooling fans, and adaptive beam motors. We install the correct LED control module for each headlamp — typically mounted to the underside of the unit or within the wheel‑arch area — and ensure the module receives the correct CAN bus and LIN bus connections.
Our technicians fabricate the exact wiring looms that JLR specify for factory‑fitted LED systems. The power supply for the LED drivers draws directly from the Battery Junction Box through a dedicated 30‑amp fused circuit. We terminate each connector with the genuine JLR terminal type — Sumitomo, TE Connectivity, or Molex depending on the vehicle generation — and seal every connection against moisture ingress. The CAN bus connections splice to the high‑speed powertrain CAN network, while the LIN bus connections route to the Body Control Module for DRL dimming control.
Vehicles upgrading from halogen to Premium LED also require headlamp levelling sensors on the front and rear suspension. JLR legislation mandates automatic beam height adjustment for any light source exceeding 2,000 lumens. We install the front and rear ride‑height sensors, route the wiring to the headlamp levelling module, and calibrate the zero‑position using the JLR diagnostic tool.
Full CCF Coding — Headlamp Configuration & Driver Assist Integration
The Central Car Configuration file controls every aspect of the lighting system’s behaviour. Our coding process writes the correct headlamp type to the Gateway Module, Body Control Module, and Instrument Pack. The CCF update activates the LED‑specific cold‑diagnosis routine, disables the bulb‑failure monitoring that triggers canbus errors with aftermarket LEDs, and enables the adaptive high‑beam assist menu on the touchscreen.
For Matrix and Pixel LED systems, we also configure the forward‑facing camera module and the image processing module. The CCF enables the “Adaptive Driving Beam” function, sets the shadowing‑response time, and calibrates the beam‑blanking accuracy. The instrument cluster displays the auto high‑beam indicator with the “A” symbol, and the driver can toggle the system through the lighting control stalk or the touchscreen vehicle‑settings menu.
Every coding change uses the factory JLR SDD or Pathfinder diagnostic platform. We do not use third‑party OBD dongles or generic coding applications. Subsequent dealer software updates — including over‑the‑air SOTA updates on newer vehicles — preserve our configuration. The vehicle recognises the Premium LED headlamps as factory‑fitted equipment permanently.
Headlight Tiers & Vehicle Compatibility
We offer three tiers of genuine JLR LED headlight technology to match your budget and your vehicle’s electrical architecture:
