Overview
Adaptive Surface Response (ADSR) is JLR’s intelligent traction management system that continuously monitors driving conditions and automatically optimises vehicle behaviour for the surface beneath the wheels. This system draws directly from Jaguar Land Rover’s extensive experience in all-wheel drive development, delivering real-time adjustments to throttle mapping, transmission calibration and Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) intervention[reference:0].
Many JLR vehicles leave the factory with the complete ADSR hardware installed but with the feature disabled within the Car Configuration File. Our ADSR activation removes this software restriction through precise CCF parameter enablement, unlocking the full capability of your vehicle’s existing sensor suite and chassis control modules.
How ADSR Works Within the JLR Architecture
ADSR operates as an intelligent mode within the broader Terrain Response framework. The system continuously analyses data from multiple vehicle sensors — including wheel speed sensors, yaw rate sensors, steering angle sensors and throttle position monitors — to determine the current surface type. Based on this real-time analysis, ADSR automatically selects the most appropriate traction settings from a range of pre-configured profiles[reference:1].
The system adapts throttle mapping to prevent wheel spin on low-grip surfaces, modulates transmission shift points for optimal torque delivery, and adjusts DSC intervention thresholds to maintain vehicle stability. On AWD-equipped vehicles, ADSR also coordinates with the Intelligent Driveline Dynamics (IDD) system to manage front-rear torque distribution[reference:2].
ADSR operates across the full speed range, supporting the driver in adverse weather and across challenging surfaces. The system replaces the standard Rain/Ice/Snow mode on the drive control interface, integrating directly into the vehicle’s existing Terrain Response control architecture[reference:3].
What Changes After Activation
- Automatic surface detection: The system continuously monitors road conditions and selects optimal traction settings without driver intervention
- Intelligent throttle management: Throttle mapping adjusts automatically to maximise available traction on wet, icy, snowy or mixed surfaces
- Optimised transmission behaviour: Shift points and torque delivery calibrate for the detected surface condition
- Coordinated DSC intervention: Stability control thresholds adapt to maintain composure and control
- IDD integration on AWD models: Front-rear torque distribution responds to available grip levels
- Permanent configuration: The updated CCF persists through ignition cycles with no ongoing intervention required
Compatibility
This activation supports most Jaguar and Land Rover AWD models equipped with Terrain Response hardware from 2016 to 2025+. Supported platforms include Range Rover L405 and L460, Range Rover Sport L494 and L461, Velar L560, Evoque L538 and L551, Discovery L462, Discovery Sport L550, Defender L663, Jaguar F-Pace, E-Pace, I-Pace, XE and XF[reference:4].
Installation Process
Our certified technicians perform the ADSR activation remotely through JLR-approved diagnostic pathways. The process follows these steps:
- Provide your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) for compatibility verification
- Confirm your order through secure payment
- Install remote support software and share connection credentials
- Switch the ignition ON and connect an ENET adapter to the OBD-II port
- Our technician performs a full pre-scan on all chassis and traction control modules to clear existing DTC faults and confirm stable communication across all linked sensors and modules
- We create a complete backup of your original CCF configuration file for secure rollback protection
- We apply targeted CCF parameter enables through JLR Pathfinder DoIP tools to unlock the ADSR algorithm
- We recalibrate the chassis control module to recognise and activate the ADSR operating profile[reference:5]
- We complete comprehensive post-coding testing including menu verification, mode switching trials and system sync confirmation
The activation typically completes within 45–90 minutes. You drive away with fully operational ADSR capability.
