Adaptive Bi-Xenon Headlights with LED Signature — Range Rover Sport L494
Product SKU: L494-XENON-AFS | Compatibility: Range Rover Sport L494 (2014–2017) | Lighting Technology: Bi-Xenon with LED DRL & AFS
Upgrade or replace your Range Rover Sport L494 headlights with genuine-specification adaptive bi-xenon units featuring the distinctive LED signature lighting that defines the modern Land Rover identity. These complete headlamp assemblies deliver the full range of factory lighting functions: bi-xenon low and high beams, LED daytime running lights with the signature oval DRL, sequential turn signals, and the Adaptive Front Lighting System (AFS) with dynamic cornering and static bending lamps.
Manufactured to OEM standards by leading suppliers including Magneti Marelli, these headlights represent the pinnacle of L494 lighting technology. The bi-xenon system uses a D3S xenon bulb for both high and low beam, while a dedicated halogen bulb provides high beam fill-in illumination.[reference:4] A solenoid-operated shutter changes the direction of the xenon beam to deliver either low or high beam, ensuring optimal light distribution for all driving conditions.
Adaptive Front Lighting System (AFS) — Dynamic Cornering Intelligence
The Adaptive Front Lighting System represents a significant advancement in automotive lighting technology, designed to give the driver improved visibility and safety in all driving scenarios. The system comprises two primary components: swivelling headlamp units and static bending lamps.
The headlamp units swivel left or right to improve light spread on bends, operating throughout the entire vehicle speed range. The system takes inputs from the vehicle’s road speed and steering angle sensors to determine the precise amount of horizontal swivel required. The swivel angle is greatest at low manoeuvring speeds and progressively reduces as vehicle speed increases. When the driver selects reverse gear, the lamps automatically return to the central position and the swivelling capability temporarily disables.
The headlamps also react in the vertical plane to the vehicle’s braking or acceleration, maximising headlamp performance by maintaining optimal beam alignment under dynamic load conditions.Upon engine start, the headlamps perform a self-calibration sequence, visibly swivelling for a few seconds to confirm system readiness.
Static Bending Lamps (SBL)
Additional cornering illumination comes from the static bending lamps, which project a beam set at 45 degrees from the vehicle’s centre line. These lamps broaden the headlamp beam when cornering during normal driving, providing enhanced peripheral visibility. The system activates the static bending lamp on the appropriate side when it detects a steering wheel rotation of 70 degrees or more, and deactivates the lamps when vehicle speed exceeds the predetermined threshold.
LED Signature Lighting — The Land Rover Identity
The LED daytime running lights incorporate the distinctive oval-shaped signature light that makes a Land Rover product instantly recognisable on the road. This signature lighting element forms an integral part of the DRL assembly and serves as a visual hallmark of the brand’s design language. The LED technology delivers superior energy efficiency compared to traditional lighting systems while providing excellent daytime visibility.
For vehicles equipped with adaptive xenon headlights, the LED signature also includes small cornering lights positioned within the oval DRL housing. These supplementary LEDs activate when the driver turns the steering wheel, providing additional side illumination for low-speed manoeuvring and parking situations.
Sequential Turn Signals
The turn signal function utilises sequential LED technology, where the individual LED bulbs illuminate one at a time in sequence. This dynamic lighting effect significantly enhances the vehicle’s visibility to other drivers and pedestrians, especially during night-time operation. The sequential signal creates a clear, unambiguous indication of the driver’s intended direction, contributing to overall road safety.

Replacement & Upgrade Applications
These adaptive bi-xenon headlamps serve as direct replacement units for vehicles originally equipped with the AFS system. Key OEM part numbers for reference include LR090462 (left-hand) and LR090463 (right-hand) for later production vehicles, with supersession history covering LR044270, LR054713, LR057276, LR084144, and LR090462.[reference:36] For earlier vehicles up to 2015, part numbers LR057273 (left) and LR057274 (right) apply.[reference:37][reference:38]
When replacing headlamp units, we recommend replacing both assemblies simultaneously to ensure consistent light output, colour temperature, and optical performance across both sides of the vehicle.
Important Safety Information
Bi-xenon lamp units operate at very high temperatures and require sufficient cooling time before handling.[reference:39] Used xenon lamp units contain mercury, which is hazardous and can be injurious to health. A very high voltage is required to ignite the gas and metal vapour used to power xenon lamps. Contact with this voltage could cause very serious injury. Therefore, we strongly recommend that replacement or maintenance of xenon lamps be carried out only by qualified personnel.
Enhance your Range Rover Sport with factory-spec adaptive lighting.
