All Terrain Progress Control (ATPC) Activation for Jaguar Land Rover
Unlock the factory low-speed off-road cruise control through professional CCF coding.
What ATPC Brings to Your JLR Vehicle
All Terrain Progress Control (ATPC) gives you a genuine off-road cruise control. You set a target speed between 2 mph and 18 mph, and the vehicle holds it without any throttle or brake input from you. The system manages engine torque, individual wheel braking, and traction intervention continuously, so the vehicle keeps steady progress across mud, gravel, grass, snow, and uneven ground. Drivers who tackle rough terrain know how tiring constant pedal adjustment becomes. ATPC removes that fatigue and lets you concentrate on steering and line choice.
Jaguar Land Rover builds most modern models with the hardware ATPC needs. The Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), the Terrain Response module, and the Engine Control Module (ECM) all support the function from the factory. JLR then disables ATPC in software on vehicles that did not order the feature as an option. Our activation service unlocks that dormant capability and brings your vehicle in line with a factory-equipped build.
How the JLR ATPC System Operates
When you press the ATPC button, the system gathers live data from the wheel speed sensors, steering angle sensor, yaw sensor, and lateral acceleration sensor. It then manages torque delivery and braking force on each wheel to hold your chosen speed. The system works alongside Terrain Response, so it adapts its behaviour to the surface mode you select.
The Car Configuration File (CCF) carries the parameter that tells the vehicle whether ATPC is present. JLR sets that parameter to “disabled” on vehicles built without the option. Our technicians change the value to “enabled” using approved JLR diagnostic tools. The vehicle then behaves exactly as one that left the factory with ATPC fitted, and the centre console button responds as intended.
Our ATPC Activation Procedure
We connect an approved JLR diagnostic interface to the vehicle’s OBD port. For most models, we use JLR System Driven Diagnostics (SDD) in engineering mode or JLR Pathfinder with the DoIP Vehicle Communication Interface, depending on model year. The platform reads your VIN and pulls the live CCF straight from the vehicle.
We back up the original CCF before we change anything. That backup lets us restore factory behaviour whenever you ask. We then locate the ATPC parameter, set it to enabled, and write the updated CCF back to the vehicle. After the write completes, we clear any diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) that appeared during the session and confirm that no other parameters shifted.
A stable power supply is critical. We connect a battery support unit that delivers 20 to 30 amps at 13.5 to 14.2 volts for the whole session. This precaution prevents the voltage drop that can interrupt a CCF write and corrupt module memory. We check battery health before we begin.
Finally, we verify the result. We confirm that the ATPC button responds and that the dashboard indicator illuminates when the system engages. You see the function working before we finish.
Compatible Vehicles
This activation service suits a broad range of Jaguar Land Rover vehicles fitted with the necessary chassis and drivetrain architecture. Typical models include:
- Range Rover Velar (L560) with Terrain Response hardware
- Range Rover Sport (L494) with Terrain Response hardware
- Range Rover (L405 and L460)
- Discovery 5 (L462)
- Discovery Sport (L550)
- Defender (L663)
- Jaguar F-Pace (X761)
Software versions and hardware fitment vary across model years, so we always verify compatibility against your VIN before you order. Some vehicles need the physical ATPC switch present before activation can succeed. We confirm that detail with you during the compatibility check.
What the Service Includes
- Full CCF backup before any modification
- ATPC parameter identification and editing
- CCF write using approved JLR diagnostic tools
- DTC clearing and module self-tests
- Post-coding verification of ATPC engagement
- Written summary of the change performed
Remote and Workshop Options
We run remote sessions for owners who have a compatible JLR diagnostic interface, a Windows laptop, and a stable internet connection. Our technician connects to your laptop and guides the process from start to finish while you supply the battery support unit. We also welcome vehicles to our UK workshop for a hands-on appointment. Remote sessions cost less, and workshop visits suit vehicles that need further coding or diagnostics alongside this activation.
