Lane Keep Assist (LKA) — OEM Retrofit & Activation for Jaguar and Land Rover Vehicles
Lane Keep Assist (LKA) extends your Jaguar or Land Rover vehicle’s forward-monitoring ADAS suite beyond warning-only alerts and into active steering correction. This OEM function employs the Integrated Forward Camera (IFC) to track lane markings continuously, then commands the Electric Power Steering (EPS) motor to apply a gentle corrective torque whenever your vehicle drifts toward a lane boundary without an active turn signal. We deliver this retrofit as a software-only activation or a complete hardware-plus-coding installation, depending on your vehicle’s existing camera architecture and CCF trim-level restrictions.
How Lane Keep Assist Works on JLR Platforms
JLR engineers built LKA on top of the vehicle’s Integrated Forward Camera network. The IFC mounts at the top of the windscreen behind the rear-view mirror housing and captures road-surface imagery at up to 30 frames per second. The camera identifies solid and dashed lane markings, measures lane width, and calculates your vehicle’s lateral position relative to both boundary lines.
LKA activates automatically once vehicle speed exceeds approximately 60 km/h (37 mph) on most JLR platforms. The ADAS-ECU evaluates camera data continuously and compares your trajectory against the detected lane geometry. When the system identifies an unintended drift, it requests a graduated steering-torque correction from the EPS module. That torque nudges your vehicle back toward the lane centre with a smooth, progressive input that you can override at any moment.
The system monitors turn-signal stalk input constantly, so it suspends corrective intervention whenever you indicate an intentional lane change. LKA also reads driver hands-on-wheel detection through EPS torque-sensor data. If you release the steering wheel for longer than the factory-specified interval, the system escalates through instrument-cluster warnings and audible chimes rather than continuing correction indefinitely. The system deactivates below approximately 55 km/h (34 mph) and resumes automatically once you return to highway speeds. Every correction-torque limit, hands-on-wheel threshold, and speed-activation value retains original OEM factory-calibration settings.
System Components and Technical Specifications
The complete Lane Keep Assist retrofit includes the following OEM-grade components:
- Integrated Forward Camera (IFC): A genuine JLR windscreen-mounted mono camera that provides lane-marking classification, lane-width measurement, and lateral-position data to the ADAS-ECU. The camera delivers a horizontal field of view of approximately 50 degrees and detects markings at ranges between 10 and 60 metres ahead.
- ADAS-ECU Integration: This module processes camera imagery, evaluates lane-departure probability, and issues steering-torque requests across the vehicle CAN and FlexRay networks.
- Electric Power Steering (EPS) Torque Module: The EPS motor receives ADAS-ECU torque requests and applies the graduated corrective steering input that returns your vehicle toward lane centre.
- Instrument Cluster and Warning Interfaces: The IPC displays lane-keep status graphics and hands-on-wheel prompts, while the audio system delivers the escalating audible chime.
- Turn-Signal Stalk Integration: The system reads stalk position to suppress correction during intentional lane changes and to determine directional steering response.
Vehicle Compatibility
Our Lane Keep Assist retrofit supports all DOiP-capable JLR platforms carrying compatible forward camera and EPS hardware or factory provisions for camera installation. Compatible models include:
- Defender (L663, 2020–2026)
- Range Rover (L405, L460, 2013–2026)
- Range Rover Sport (L494, L461, 2014–2026)
- Discovery 5 (L462, 2017–2026)
- Discovery Sport (L550, 2015–2026)
- Evoque (L538, L551, 2012–2026)
- Velar (L560, 2017–2026)
- Jaguar F-PACE (X761, 2016–2026)
- Jaguar XF (X260, 2016–2024)

- Jaguar I-PACE (2018–2025)
- Jaguar E-PACE (2018–2024)
Many mid-to-high-specification vehicles arrive from the factory with the forward camera and EPS hardware already fitted, yet factory CCF trim-level restrictions disable the complete LKA feature set. Our dealer-level Pathfinder DOIP programming removes these software barriers and activates the full lane-keeping correction logic.
The Retrofit Process
We perform every Lane Keep Assist retrofit using certified JLR Pathfinder DOIP programming. The process follows four defined stages:
- Pre-Scan Diagnostics: We verify the health and compatibility of your vehicle’s forward camera, EPS module, instrument cluster, and gateway. This step confirms whether your vehicle requires software-only activation or a complete hardware-plus-coding installation.
- CCF Configuration Updates: We modify validated CCF build-file flags within the IFC, ADAS-ECU, EPS, IPC, and gateway (GWM) to unlock dormant LKA logic. This approach preserves all factory correction-torque limits, hands-on-wheel thresholds, and diagnostic-logging routines.
- Camera Calibration and EPS Verification: Where camera installation is required, our technicians mount the IFC in the factory-specified windscreen position and perform static and dynamic calibration using JLR-approved diagnostic equipment. We then confirm EPS torque-response accuracy against OEM specification.
- Post-Activation Validation: Our JLR-certified technicians verify camera response, corrective torque delivery, hands-on-wheel detection, cluster graphics, and audible chime behaviour on-road. We confirm zero fault codes and full feature usability before completing the service.
Key Benefits of the Lane Keep Assist Retrofit
- Active Steering Support: LKA corrects unintended lane drift with smooth, progressive steering torque, which reduces the mental load of long motorway journeys and fatigue-related lane wander.
- Override-Safe Design: You retain full authority at all times. The system applies gentle correction only, and any deliberate steering input instantly overrides its request.
- Dormant Hardware Unlock: Many JLR vehicles carry factory-fitted camera and EPS electronics locked behind CCF software restrictions. Our activation unlocks this latent safety hardware without physical modifications.
- Full OEM Integration: The retrofit uses genuine JLR components and factory programming protocols. It maintains complete vehicle system integrity and triggers no warning lights or ADAS DTC faults.
- Foundation for Lane Centring and Traffic Jam Assist: LKA activation establishes the camera calibration, EPS coding, and torque-authority foundation that supports Lane Centring Assist and Traffic Jam Assist retrofits.
- Permanent Feature Stability: Lane Keep Assist functionality persists through battery resets, system scans, and official JLR software updates.
